Aluminum Replacing Copper" Gains Traction, Air Conditioning Industry Explores Material Transformation

After years of technological development, the challenges previously faced by aluminum materials—such as susceptibility to corrosion and insufficient heat exchange efficiency—have been effectively addressed. Through technologies such as aluminum tube zinc spraying, improved solder ring materials, and novel heat exchanger structural designs, the overall heat exchange performance of aluminum heat exchangers can now match or even exceed that of copper tube products.

Currently, all-aluminum heat exchanger air conditioners account for 40% to 50% of the Japanese market, and 30% to 40% in South Korea and Southeast Asia. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, along with nine other government departments, has explicitly included aluminum heat exchange tubes for refrigerators and air conditioning heat exchangers as a key focus area under the "aluminum-saving and copper-replacing" initiative. Industry insiders believe that "aluminum replacing copper" will become an important lever for cost reduction and efficiency improvement in the air conditioning sector.
